Sunday mornings, 9:15 – 10:00 am in the Fireside Room
Adults are encouraged to grab a cup of coffee and come to the Fireside Room between the 8:00 and 10:15 am worship services for the Adult Forum, an opportunity to go deeper in our knowledge of the Bible, our relationships with each other, and in learning how to live as Christians in the world.
Each year, Adult Forum focuses on a specific theological theme. For example, we focused one season on the spiritual practice of hospitality: to self, to God (with a presentation by Father Bob Pearson, Guest master for the Abbey at St. John’s), to strangers (with a presentation by the Minnesota Council of Church’s Refugee Services program), to enemies (presentation on the practice of deep listening in Middle East peace efforts by Rabbi Amy Eilberg, the first female rabbi ordained in Conservative Judaism).
Other Adult Forum themes have concerned Christian mission, “a full offering on the topic of emptying,” and particular books in the Bible.
Adult Forum also utilizes the ANIMATE program. Led by various members of the congregation, each program is a series with a theme: Faith (an imaginative exploration of Christianity’s big questions); Bible (a refreshing take on what the Bible is, how it came to be, and how we read it today); and Practices (an engaging introduction to the central practices of the Christian faith, why they are important, and how we can take part in them today).
Adult Forum is augmented by a host of additional offerings usually following a specific theme for the season. Past offerings have included parish outings to the Minnesota Institute of Art for special exhibits, Women’s Lenten Retreats, courses such as one on the spiritual themes of Shakespeare’s Othello or an Introduction to the Enneagram provided by the Wisdom Ways Center for Spirituality. During Lent and Advent we offer guided prayer and then silence in our Chapel during Adult Forum time.
Trinity also has hosted a “Called to Life” program. Sponsored by the Collegeville Institute, and funded by the Lily Endowment, this program seeks to equip participants to both discern their call and make life decisions to live fully into that call. Learn more about the Rector's sabbatical with this letter from the vestry and these updates(letter and diagram), published in June.
Men’s Bible Study
Tuesday mornings 7:30-8:30 am
At this weekly gathering, participants reflect on the past Sunday’s scripture readings through conversation and commentary. The Rev. Leonard Freeman leads challenging and vibrant discussions. (And there are always donuts. Good donuts.
Every Wednesday 10:00-11:30 am in the Fireside Room
Each week, Trinity women meet for fellowship, Bible study, book studies, guest speakers on current religious topics, and conversation. Wednesday Women sometimes go “on the road,” whether to the Minnesota Institute of Arts or the nearby Arboretum. The goal of this group is to learn and deepen in faith through the experience of accepting community. This group is always dynamic, always new, always loving and always open.
