Sally discovered her passion for ministry and faith development at a young age, as an active student leader at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City, Iowa. After graduating high school she spent a gap year with the organization Time for God, serving as a full-time Youth and Children's Minister at St. Mary's Anglican Church in Hadlow, England. During that year she supported ministries for all ages, volunteered in the village preschool and primary school, and also developed a brand new Sunday evening group for youth. After her year in the UK, she returned to Iowa to attend Northwestern College in her hometown Orange City. During her two years there she studied Christian Education & Ministry and met her husband Jake!
In August of 2007, Jake and Sally got married and left Iowa to live in Rochester, Minnesota. In January of 2008, they followed an invitation to serve with the Reformed Church in America in Manama, Bahrain. Jake taught 3rd grade at Al Raja School while Sally volunteered as a worship leader, Sunday School and VBS teacher, and taught Confirmation Class at the National Evangelical Church. They returned to Rochester in the summer of 2008 after taking a month to visit the parish where Sally spent her gap year in England!
While Jake earned his Master's Degree in Education from Winona State University, Sally taught preschool and worked towards completing an online BA in Early Childhood Education through Western Governors University. In 2010, they moved to Waconia to teach in the school district. Sally taught Kindergarten and Jake spent time teaching grades 3-5 before becoming an Instructional Coach. They have 3 children now, Gavin, Graham, and Gemma, who love attending Trinity together.
Sally also completed an MS in K-12 Curriculum and Instruction through Western Governors University and continues to explore the way each individual is able to learn and grow in unique ways during their childhood and adolescence. She is passionate about meeting the diverse needs of all children and youth, while helping them discover a connection with God not only at church, but within themselves and the world around them. While her professional experience in education has shaped her skillset, her heart and spirit have always been called to Church Ministry. She hopes to fulfill her role as Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministry as a servant leader, equipping others to connect with all ages through authentic relationships, mindful spiritual practice, and intentional outreach and service.
